How do Group notifications work?
Notification Types
Groups generate several types of notifications:
- New post — someone posts in a group you follow
- Comment on your post — a reply to something you wrote
- Mention — someone uses
@yourname in a post or comment
- Mod action — a moderator warns, mutes, or takes action on your content
- Join request (owners/mods) — someone requests access to a private group
Muting Options
You can control notifications at multiple levels:
- Mute entire group — right-click the group in your sidebar → Mute. You stay a member but receive zero notifications.
- Mute new posts only — go to Group Settings → Notifications and uncheck New Posts. You still get mentions and replies.
- Mute a specific member — click their name → Mute notifications from this member
Push vs Email
By default, group notifications are push only (in-app and mobile). To enable email digests, go to Settings → Notifications and toggle Group email digests — you will receive a daily summary instead of individual emails.
Tip For high-traffic groups, mute new posts and rely on mentions. This keeps your notification feed manageable while ensuring you see anything directed at you.
