What are Message Requests?
How Requests Work
Message Requests are a holding area for messages from people outside your privacy filter. Instead of landing directly in your inbox, these messages wait in the Requests tab until you decide what to do with them.
Requests appear as a separate tab in your Messages page with an unread count badge.
Reviewing Requests
When you open a request, you can preview the message content without the sender knowing you have seen it (no read receipt is sent for requests). You have three options:
- Accept — the conversation moves to your main inbox. All future messages from this person come through directly.
- Decline — the request is removed. The sender is not notified. They can message you again, but it will land in Requests again.
- Decline & Block — the request is removed and the sender is blocked. They cannot contact you or see your profile.
Notifications
Message Requests do not trigger push notifications or email alerts. You will only see a badge count on the Requests tab when you open the Messages page. This is by design — it prevents unwanted messages from interrupting you.
Check your Requests tab periodically. Legitimate messages from new contacts may be waiting there, especially if your privacy is set to "People I follow" or "Nobody."
