How do I create a Scene?
Setup Process
Go to Create → Scenes to start building. The creation flow walks you through:
- Genre — pick a primary genre (fantasy, mystery, romance, sci-fi, horror, etc.)
- Setting — describe the location, time period, and world details
- Tone — set the overall mood (lighthearted, dark, dramatic, comedic, tense)
- Backstory — write the narrative context that sets up the scene for the player
- Characters — assign up to 20 characters and define each one's role in the scene
- Opening — write the initial narrative text the player sees when they start
Writing a Good Scene
The backstory and character roles are the most important elements. Tips:
- Set stakes — give the player something to care about from the opening paragraph
- Define relationships — specify how characters relate to each other and to the player
- Leave room for agency — do not script every outcome. Let the AI and the player drive the story
- Use sensory details — describe what the player sees, hears, and feels in the environment
Saving and Publishing
You can save drafts at any point and return to edit later. Use Preview to test the scene before publishing. When ready, click Publish to make it available on the Discover page.
Tip Test your scene several times before publishing. Try different player approaches to make sure the characters respond appropriately across various paths.
