How do talking avatars work?
Overview
Talking avatars bring characters to life during conversations. When a character responds with voice, the AI generates a lip-synced video of the character speaking in real-time. Mouth movements, facial expressions, and subtle head motions are matched to the audio output.
Requirements
- The character must have Voice enabled in character settings
- You must be on a paid plan (Plus, Pro, or Creator)
- The character needs an avatar image uploaded — the AI uses this as the source for animation
How It Works
When you send a message and the character responds:
- The AI generates the text response
- Voice synthesis converts the text to speech
- The talking avatar engine animates the character's face to match the audio
- All three are delivered together as a synchronized video response
The entire process adds only 1-2 seconds to the normal response time.
Customization
You can toggle talking avatars on or off per conversation from the chat settings menu (gear icon). Some users prefer text-only or audio-only responses for faster interaction.
Talking avatars work best with front-facing character portraits. Side profiles and group images may produce less accurate lip sync.
